DCCC will hold a concert by “mélomanie2” in the large auditorium of the Academic building on Marple campus March 2 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The local group consists of Kimberly Reighley, baroque and modern flutes; and Tracy Richardson, harpsichordist. The Concert will also be available via zoom.
Mélomanie2’s performance will showcase masters of the Baroque era. A Q&A will follow the concert about their performed pieces: four world premieres written for them and two works from the Baroque for baroque flute and obbligato harpsichord. Some composers will also be present to discuss their pieces.
Richard Belcastro, concert Series director and music professor, tries to bring programs that show older styles of music while acknowledging the living artists who keep the tradition alive.
“Regardless of genre, having living artists working and creating today at the forefront of what we present is vitally important. While reverence for what has come before is important, we lose the future if we ignore the present.”
Mélomanie2 was chosen among top tier local artists to keep representation and diversity in mind. Classical music has traditionally been male dominated, white, and within the upper economic class.
“By focusing on living artists, we present work from composers of a vast array of backgrounds who are putting their personal spin on the art of today and hopefully the future.”
Student admission to both in-person and zoom viewing is free. For others, the cost of a ticket is $10. You may purchase tickets at https://dccc-arts.ticketleap.com/melomanie2/.
