DCCC has introduced a men and women’s track and field team this semester. The team has been conditioning, bonding and training for their first meet, March 25.
The team has been conditioning at the Marple campus. When weather permits, they can travel to a local track for practices. Once meets begin, the team will travel to other colleges to compete.
So far, the team consists of three women and nine men Cara Fordenbacher, assistant coach, said the team will compete in field events from the 100m to the 5k, as well as throwers and jumpers. The team has potential to grow, as new members are accepted until Feb. 17.
Head coach is Dwyane Saunders, the assistant athletic director at DCCC. Saunders has a background in basketball coaching, strength and conditioning.
Fordenbacher will be coaching at college level for the first time but has experience as a track and field and cross country athlete at Eastern University.
From Feb. 13-27, the team will be collecting used tennis shoes to donate to “The Running Place” in Newtown Square for the “Track and Field Used Shoe Drive.”
