DCCC has changed the name of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) to the Consultation, Assessment, Referral, and Education (CARE) Team now found at https://www.dccc.edu/care-team. This link can also be found in the Student Services links in delaGATE. The team has also updated its reporting form to ask for greater detail and to better track the issues facing our students.
The College’s BIT was established during the 2013-2014 academic year to respond to the emotional well-being of students and assess threats to the campus community. The creation of BIT was a national trend in part as a response to the Virginia Tech massacre.
A 2022 survey shows the name “CARE” is now used by 44% of colleges to emphasize a greater focus on student well-being and a care and concern approach to address “low-level” issues before they rise to threats to self or others.
Team members are Charles Schnur, Director of Student Conduct (Chair); Justin Owens, Vice President of Student Affairs; Lynette Luckers, Dean, Counseling and Completion Services; Dana Baker, Assistant Dean, Counseling and Completion Services; Matt Brenner, Director of Safety & Security; Rich McFadden, Dean of Business, Computing & Social Science; Simone Richardson, Director of Disability Services; and Stephanie Sarafinas, Professor, Counselor.
