(Oct.14, Marple Campus) Speak About It interactive workshops on consent, sexual interactions, and bystander intervention will be held on Oct. 25 at 11:10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at DCCC’s Marple Campus. Both programs take place in the large auditorium in the Academic Building. No registration is needed.

The events will feature live performances written by young people. During the performances, attendees are encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussion. Student leaders will be appointed to guide these interactions.

Any student can be a program student leader. Those interested must attend training on Oct. 25 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 2185 on Marple’s Campus.

The Speak About It workshop is sponsored by the It’s On Us Grant DCCC received for the 2022-2023 school year. The grant is part of The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s initiative to reframe conversations about sexual violence.

The goal is to create a dialogue among DCCC students. Chris Doyle, career counselor and program coordinator, said, “I hope this program empowers our college to tackle these topics with compassion.”

The counselor acknowledges that sex, violence, and consent can be hard to talk about. However, she believes Speak About It discussion format will make it easier. Doyle said, “our community’s active involvement will leave a lasting impact.”
