DCCC is mourning the death of legendary head basketball coach Larry Yarbray Sr. Yarbray died on Sept. 10 during a morning bike ride when he was hit by a pickup truck. Yarbray served as DCCC’s head coach for the past five seasons.
Before his time at DCCC, Yarbray served as the head coach at Chester High for nine years. The Chester Clippers won five Delaware Valley championships under Yarbray’s leadership. As Coach, he accrued 214 wins as well as seven 20-win seasons.
In college, Yarbray was a point guard at Coppin State University in 1990. He set a school record with 622 assists.
He also played point guard for the Chester High School Basketball team. Rob Knox, who coached him at Chester, said, “Larry was one of the best people. Would give you the shirt off his back. Treated people well.”
