The DCCC women’s basketball team had a dominant performance against Luzerne County Community College winning by a score of 87-38 at Widener University Feb. 12.
The Phantoms picked up their third win of the season and snapped a three-game losing streak.
Phantoms freshman Georria Clark exploded with 50 points, including eight three-pointers. Clark has been the go-to scorer all season, averaging 33 points per game.
Along with the 50 points, Clark had seven rebounds and seven steals.
Phantoms sophomore Kadesha Dix was on triple-double alert with a line of 25 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.
Phantoms freshman guard Anyssa Medley came up huge off the bench. Medley collected a team high 14 rebounds, eight coming off the offensive glass.
The Phantoms shot roughly 44 percent from the field, compared to LCCC’s 26 percent. LCCC failed to hit a three-pointer, while the Phantoms knocked down 10.
DCCC also had the advantage in rebounds, assists, and forced turnovers.
“Same things we practice,” head coach Marvin Dukes said about the defense. “Get tips on the ball.”
Both teams started the game off slow. With 5:09 left in the first, the Phantoms were leading 7-2.
Clark then started to get into a groove with a 22-point first quarter, hitting four three-pointers, including a half-court buzzer beater.
“Honestly, I have seen it before,” Dukes said. “I coached her in high school.”
DCCC closed the first on a 22-4 run to have a commanding 29-6 lead.
After a quiet second quarter, where the Phantoms were outscored 14-12, they still held a commanding 41-20 lead at halftime.
The Phantoms came out soaring in the third and fourth quarter.
Clark and Dix combined for 33 points in the second half, which proved to be too much for the Trail Blazers.
DCCC continued to grow the lead in the second half and secured the victory.
Dukes said the team’s performance was the best of the season adding, “the best I’ve seen from a shooting perspective.”
DCCC came back two days later and picked up another win, defeating Philadelphia Community College 65-54.
The Phantoms finished out their season against Northampton falling 106-49 with a final record of 4-15.
