Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society of two year colleges.

To receive an invitation to join, a student must complete 12 credits while maintaining a minimum 3.5 GPA.

The purpose of the Alpha Tau Epsilon chapter at DCCC is the promotion of scholarship, the development of leadership and service, and the cultivation of fellowship, according to a news release.

Twice a school year, once in the fall and once in the spring, invitations are sent out to all students who have met the requirements and an orientation and induction ceremony are held for all who choose to accept a membership into this elite organization.

Oct. 28 was PTK’s most recent induction with the spring induction following in March.

Being a member of Phi Theta Kappa gives one access to $87 million in scholarships; many schools offer automatic scholarships to members, lifetime networking opportunities, free enrollment in Collegefish.org, increased pay for entry level federal jobs, and letters of recommendation to potential employers and/or college admission counselors.

Members have the opportunity to participate in multiple volunteer and fundraising projects; PTK members recently raised more than $2,000 and participated in the Autism Speaks walk; and have the chance to be selected to attend the International Convention is held in the spring. This years location is San Antonio, Texas.DEKAEXI
